Newborn Must Have
These are my absolute favorite and must-have items for a newborn.
Since I am a first-time mom, I had no idea what I needed for a newborn. So I did some research and asked around all of my mom friends for help and was able to put together a solid list of all the essentials. All of the items I listed above in the photo is everything I currently use at the moment and I would highly recommend it to all the new moms to consider.
Sleep Essentials
For my son, I picked out the bassinet that also can be turned over into a changing table because we don't have a lot of room in the bedroom and it saves us so much space. I prefer to have him by my side during the night so I can easily keep an eye on him and feed him on demand. I do eventually want to get a crib to put in his room but only when he outgrows the bassinet or when he starts sleeping more than 4 hours at night.
The Boppy Lounge and the Dock A Tot are absolutely a must for me and totally worth the price because it is portable and great for travel. We visit his grandparent's pretty often, so having either the lounge or doc a tot in hand really makes me feel good knowing he can sleep comfortability anywhere.
I picked out the Aden and Anais swaddle blanket for him because a lot of moms were raving about it and once I saw the one with Mickey Mouse on it I couldn't resist hehe had to have it. While I was looking at different types of swaddle blankets I also got one that had a velcro closure on it because it looked like it was gonna be easier to swaddle. However, when I put him in them he did not like it at all and kept busting through the velcro and coming undone. I found with him the traditional square swaddle blanket is best and I have been perfecting my swaddling technique watching youtube tutorials.
Bath Essentials
For bath time, I picked out the Fisher-Price 4 in 1 because of all of the positive reviews and to be honest, I don't really think it matters too much on which bath you get for babies because they all have similar functions and all work very well. Right now I don't even use the infant sling for the bath because the sling sits too high above the water and I feel like my son is getting cold so I just have my husband hold him while I wash him. So my recommendation will be just to get an affordable one, don't go spending too much on a tub.
For washing, I was initially looking at the honest company newborn set but I have heard that it has a strong scent to it and since I am not a big fan of scented products due to allergies I decided to go with Aveeno to be safe. However, if you don't have any issues with scent, you can definitely try it out, I know some moms that love the honest company products.
Daily Essentials
Diapers are of course the most important item to buy and make sure to put it on your registry because they will go fast and you can never have too many diapers. I put pampers diapers in my registry at target and thankfully I got 4 big boxes at my baby shower and I'm currently using them and still have 2 more boxes to go through until I have to buy diapers.
My son used Newborn for the first 3 weeks
Then we switched to #1 and getting ready to transition into #2 at 7 weeks
When all the diapers from my baby shower runs out, I will be switching over to the (Up and Up) Target brand diapers because they are half the price of pampers and Huggies which will definitely save me money. Also, my son used it during his newborn stage and didn't have any bad reaction to it so it is safe to continue using that brand for him.
If you have other suggestions for newborn essentials please comment below or if you have any questions about any of the product, I would love to share my experience with you.
